Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: Baby Bundle Program Helpers

Every week, Patch will spotlight volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley. This will be a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

This week, we are putting the spotlight on some opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

Baby Bundle Program Helpers
Open Door Family Medical Center is seeking help in making calls to community partners on behalf of its Baby Bundles program. Prenatal patients are given bags full of diapers, wipes, clothing, bibs, a toy, a book, and more—all items donated by community organizations, individuals, and corporate friends. This bundle includes an envelope that contains resources for the new moms, including information from community partners. Volunteers will make sure that the information in these inserts is accurate, up-to-date, and current programs are included. Volunteers can be as young as 16.

Cooking Volunteers
Join D.I.G. Farm's initiative, the Westchester Local Food Project, at Mount Vernon's First Presbyterian Church in preparing meals that will be donated to a local soup kitchen. Volunteers will help prep, cook, and package meals for delivery. Kitchen experience is a plus. This is the perfect project for small groups and volunteers ages 14+.

Invasives and Meadow Maintenance
Ward Acres Conservancy is seeking volunteers to help with pulling, digging, and cutting invasive plants around the park to make room for beneficial native plants that provide nectar, pollen, and berries for pollinators like Monarch butterflies, hummingbirds, and songbirds. Volunteers can also assist with litter and debris cleanup.
Date: 6/21 from 12-2 p.m.; Saturdays

Fundraising and Grant Writing Volunteers
Putnam Service Dogs provides free service dogs to veterans with PTSD and people with physical disabilities other than blindness. It is seeking volunteers to assist with grant writing and building its donor relationships. Previous experience, excellent communication and people skills, and a passion to support its mission are key! Volunteers must be 25+.
