volunteers wanted: Greenburgh quilt project
A follow up to the Ardsley Quilt Project Greenburgh to promote diversity and inclusiveness
THE GREENBURGH QUILT PROJECT -VOLUNTEERS WANTED
Earlier this year residents of the Village of Ardsley completed an amazing initiative—a quilt project led by Sania Samad and Alka Shukla. We would like to invite residents of Greenburgh who enjoy quilting to participate in a similar Quilt project initiative. I suggested that the Quilts highlight Greenburgh’s acceptance of diversity and inclusiveness. Will ask if the Quilt, once completed, can be hung up at Town Hall. Heritage and Harmony Committee Mission Statement: The Committee is dedicated to fostering unity and mutual understanding among individuals of diverse ethnic, cultural, religious and generational backgrounds. Through dialogue, collaboration, and community engagement, we seek to build an inclusive environment that honors diversity, promotes equity, and strengthens our community.
Proposed Projects: Town of Greenburgh Story Quilt, Cultural Celebrations & Community conversations
Town of Greenburgh Story Quilt
The idea of home, in its entirety, serves as the inspiration for this quilt: an acceptance, recognition and celebration of communities within communities through the art of storytelling and shared histories using textiles as language of expression.
Project Mission: To bring our community together through the art of quilting by expressing individual and collective stories that reflect who we are and what we hope to become.
This project will promote: Community building, A sense of belonging, Storytelling and shared histories, Inclusivity and gratitude and Hope for all.
We will meet once a month to work collaboratively, share stories, and create space for community conversations and creative solutions.
Each family will design and stitch their own fabric square, using recycled textile materials and hand embroidery to tell their story.
No prior sewing or embroidery experience is required, all supplies and guidance will be provided.
