Oct. 2: A Day of Music, Sports, and Fire Safety

Today's big five is all about family activities.

Three Village is a pretty rock-and-roll place to be on Saturday. From a hot soccer match and fire prevention event to some cool musical performances – and some news from a local celebrity – here's what's happening.

1. Stony Brook University's football team has this weekend off. But you can still get your fix of Seawolf sports action thanks to the men's soccer team, which takes on Boston University today at 7 p.m. in a conference opener at LaValle Stadium. Word around town: it's supposed to be a hot one.

2. Music and nature just go together. Wouldn't you agree? Today, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at Stony Brook brings them together at its inaugural Woodlands Folk Festival between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Adult tickets are $15, children are $5.

3. Or bring the family to see Bari Koral and her Family Rock Band. The "it girl" of kids' rock-and-roll will play two shows, 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., as part of Family Fun Day at Benner's Farm. Festivities will also include pumpkin picking, spooky hayrides, visiting farm animals, and rides in the farm's big swing.

4. Fire prevention is serious business. The Setauket Fire Department's Annual Fire Prevention Open House is today between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Residents are welcome to come down and meet the crew and learn all about fire safety.
