EAST SETAUKET, NY—Long Island is now getting three Amazon Fresh supermarkets. The concept, with its tagline "just walk out" is a checkout line-free shopping experience Amazon is expanding nationwide. Now, the former Waldbaum's at 4054 Nesconset Hwy. will be the third Long Island location to employ the concept, along with spaces in Oceanside and Plainview.

According to Newsday, Amazon Retail LLC applied for state liquor authority licensing in November for East Setauket.

The East Setauket Waldbaum's building was divided into smaller spaces after six years of sitting empty earlier this year.

The Oceanside Amazon Fresh store is also going into a former Waldbaum's, at 3620 Long Beach Rd., currently being renovated. The Plainview location will be in the space last occupied by Fairway Market in Manetto Hill Plaza.

The Amazon Fresh markets have smart shopping carts that scan items as you bag items in the cart automatically. The cart screens show item prices and a running total tally. Alexa kiosks help shoppers find items.
