The Brookhaven Highway Department set up a simulation for students to drive through using electric go-karts. The program replicates the impairment caused by drinking and other distractions. Students first went through the course with no distractions. They were then asked to send texts to while behind the wheel. During the final exercise, students wore Fatal Vision goggles, which altered their vision to simulate a blood alcohol content of three times the legal limit.

The activity is a valuable experience for students, allowing them to practice the rules of the road and see the dangers of distracted driving firsthand.
