University Police: Student Drives into Bushes, Charged with DWI

A student at Stony Brook University who drove his car into a bush was arrested on Friday evening and charged with drunk driving.

According to University Police Chief Robert Lenahan, university police received a 911 call around midnight stating that the caller saw a car driving without lights on the wrong side of the road near the athletic fields.

University police responded and found the student, Christopher Pimental trying to get his car out of bushes by the H Quad parking lot. According to Lenahan, Pimental was pressing on the gas pedal trying to move it when they approached him.

After speaking with him they believed he was under the influence of something and asked him to step out of the car. Lenahan said the officers determined he was intoxicated and placed him under arrest. Pimental, who was not given a breathalyzer test, was then taken to the hospital, discharged and then was brought to the Suffolk County Criminal Court where he was held.
