UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — New details have emerged following an early morning wrong-way crash that left a man dead in Yorkville on Wednesday, according to a police report.

A 47-year-old driver of a gas-powered 2023 Taizhou Qianxin moped died and a 34-year-old passenger was seriously injured after the pair slammed into a box truck on Second Avenue and East 94th Street at around 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

The moped was buzzing the wrong way down East 94th Street, an east-bound one-way street, and smashed into the driver's side cab of the truck traveling on Second Avenue as both approached the intersection, according to officials.

While the two men on the moped were seriously injured — one fatally — the collision happened just behind where the 70-year-old truck driver was sitting and police did not report that he suffered any physical injury.

The men on the moped were discovered by police and first responders on the ground, unconscious and unresponsive with serious injuries to their heads and bodies, officials said.

Officials said the 34-year-old passenger is in stable condition.

The identity of the deceased is pending family notification, police said.
