UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Madison Avenue is getting a stylish new candy shop with the opening of Glace Candy, owned by Sasha Zabar, this Thursday.
Glace Candy (pronounced like "gloss") is chock-full of sweet treats from around the globe, as well as handmade small-batch chocolate and gummy creations, Zabar said.
The selection includes Swedish, German, Japanese, and French gummies, which will mostly be sold by the weight.

Glace Candy is opening directly next to Glace, Zabar's hot chocolate and ice cream shop.
The candies from the shop can be used as toppings and mix-ins next door, Zabar said. The shop now has a frozen marble slab for customizable ice cream and candy concoctions.

The sweet selection is inspired by Zabar's nostalgia for his favorite childhood candy shop, Millionaire Deli, which the original Glace occupies.
“One of my fondest memories growing up was browsing the candy counter at Millionaire on the weekends or after school — they were always mini-magical moments for me being able to pick out my own candy," Zabar, who is the son of Eli Zabar, told Patch.

“I want to bring that magical feeling to the neighborhood students, as well as every person that comes into Glace Candy."
The candy shop follows the same whimsical pastel color scheme as the ice cream parlor and is connected internally through an arched pathway.
Glace Candy is located at 1266 Madison Ave., between East 90th Street and East 91st Street. Opening day is Thursday. Glace Candy will be open seven days a week from 12-8 p.m.
