Jeremy's, Yorkville Bar By Butcher Shop Scion, Opening This Week
Taking over the old Two Little Red Hens space: Jeremy's, a cocktail bar from the Schaller & Weber owner that pays tribute to Old Yorkville.
UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — The heir to Schaller & Weber is opening a new neighborhood business this week — but instead of bratwurst and kielbasa, it will serve up schnapps and shrimp cocktails.
The cocktail bar Jeremy's will open Friday at 1652 Second Ave., according to an Instagram announcement. The enterprise was conceived by Jeremy Schaller, third-generation owner of the venerated butcher, which is just two doors down between East 85th and 86th streets.
Schaller first revealed plans last spring to take over the storefront, formerly home to Two Little Red Hens bakeshop, which closed during the pandemic and now plans to relocate across the street.

Jeremy's, he said, aimed to keep "the spirit of old Yorkville alive," paying tribute to bygone Upper East Side establishments like Elaine's and naming each drink after a neighborhood "historical component."
Indeed, the bar's Instagram account is filled with black-and-white photos showing the neighborhood's glory days: George Plimpton at Elaine's, David Bowie outside the Carlyle Hotel, and Schaller & Weber itself in the 1960s.

Jeremy's cocktail menu was designed by Richardo Echeverri, an alumnus of Frenchette in Tribeca, with a focus on Austrian spirits and wines, according to the New York Times.
Food items, by chef Christopher Engel of Café Sabarsky, will include oysters, shrimp cocktail, the Swiss potato dish rösti and charcuterie via Schaller & Weber, the Times reported.
Other details are scarce, but Schaller told a community board last year that the bar would be open daily: from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday, and 11 a.m. to 4 a.m. from Thursday through Saturday.
