Longtime UES Hospital Spot Cafe Fresco Suddenly Shutters
The deli and cafe closed its doors on First Avenue next to St. Catherine's Park on Monday.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A cafe that used to serve hoards of hungry customers donning scrubs from the many nearby hospitals suddenly closed its doors on Monday.
Cafe Fresco, on the corner of First Avenue and East 67th Street, had paper covering its windows and a sign informing customers where they could find their same mix of deli convenience in a cafe atmosphere.

"LOCATION IS CLOSED," the sign read, informing customers to visit their new location on First Avenue and East 49th Street.

A worker at the Midtown East location did not know exactly why the store had shuttered, but said that it was "time" to move on.

The Cafe was well-known for its wide array of options appealing to the doctors, nurses and patients who made a mad dash for a quick a tasty bite.

But perhaps the most appealing aspect of Cafe Fresco was the ample window seating overlooking St. Catherine's Park.
A review on Manhattan Sideways called Cafe Fresco an "inviting gourmet deli."
"On a brutally humid summer day," the review continued, "we watched the children swinging higher and higher outside at the park as we hid inside from the heat, refueled ourselves, and recharged our cell phones."
