Man Charged In 2 Upper East Side Sexual Assaults, DA Says

A man accused of following two women on the Upper East Side and then sexually assaulting them has been indicted on felony charges.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A man accused of sexually assaulting two women on Upper East Side streets and a third in Lower Manhattan was indicted Tuesday on a slew of charges, prosecutors announced.

Damian Baeza Rendon, a 20-year-old East Harlem resident, faces felony counts of sexual abuse and attempted rape for the three alleged attacks, which spanned from June 28 to Aug. 20, District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office said in a news release.

In the first instance, Baeza Rendon followed a woman for several Upper East Side blocks, then ran up behind her on East 89th Street near First Avenue, pulled down her blouse and placed his mouth on her breast, according to police and prosecutors.

On Aug. 7, Baeza Rendon followed another woman down a street and into a subway station on Broadway and Houston Street, where he reached under her dress and grabbed her from behind, prosecutors said.

Finally, on Aug. 20, Baeza rendon followed a woman from a 6 train station, grabbed her, and tried to rape her until a Good Samaritan heard her screams and intervened, prosecutors said.

Authorities are also investigating an unspecified fourth incident on July 31 on Greene Street between Spring and Broome streets in SoHo, prosecutors said.

Baeza Rendon was arrested on Sept. 3 around 3:45 a.m., police said. He was employed at a sushi bar, the New York Post reported.

"All New Yorkers have the unequivocal right to travel through our City’s subways and streets," D.A. Bragg said in a statement. "As alleged, Damian Baeza Rendon followed and attacked multiple women as they walked along the street in a pattern of late-night attacks."
