Man Steals Cell Phone From Woman on UES Train Platform: Police

A woman's phone was stolen from her pocket as she waited for a Lexington Avenue subway on Friday, officials said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A man stole a woman's cell phone as she stood on an Upper East Side subway platform Friday afternoon, police said.

At about 3:40 p.m., a 30-year-old woman was waiting for an uptown 6 train at the 86th Street subway station when a man approached her from behind, according to officials.

The man then sneakily swiped her phone from her pocket, police said, and then fled the scene in an unknown direction.

No injuries were reported, police said.

An NYPD spokesperson did not have much of a description to offer, only noting that the man appeared to be around 18-years-old, about five foot two inches and was wearing a sweater.
