Man Throws Rocks At Upper East Side Jewish School, Police Say

The overnight vandalism at the Ramaz School is the latest possible bias incident targeting an East Side Jewish institution, police say.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A man threw rocks at the front of an Upper East Side Jewish school, damaging a window, according to police, who are investigating the vandalism as a possible hate crime.

The man walked up to the Ramaz Middle School, on East 85th Street between Lexington and Park avenues, around 9 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

He took a rock from his backpack and threw it at one of the school's front windows, damaging it, police said. A short time later, the man returned and threw a second rock at another window before fleeing on foot, police said.

The NYPD's Hate Crimes Unit is investigating the vandalism, police said.

Police described the man as about 5 feet 9 inches tall and 160 pounds, last seen wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, black jeans and black sneakers, carrying a backpack.

The act comes weeks after another man kicked and urinated on a sukkah outside an Upper East Side synagogue, according to authorities, who are still seeking that suspect.
