Manhole Fire Erupts In Lenox Hill: FDNY

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Flames and smoke shot out of a Lexington Avenue manhole Wednesday night, fire officials said, bringing a fleet of fire and Con-Ed trucks to the scene.

At around 8:30 p.m., officials received an emergency call reporting a manhole fire on Lexington Avenue and East 77th Street, according to an FDNY spokesperson.

The fire prompted a big response, with four fire engines, two ladders and a fire battalion responding to the scene, officials said.

With firefighters operating two hose lines, the blaze was under control by 11:45 p.m., officials said.

No injuries were reported.
