Salt & Straw To Open First Scoop Shop On The Upper East Side
A popular Portland ice cream shop is heading to the East Side for the first time.
UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Salt & Straw, a West Coast-favorite ice cream scoop shop, is opening an outpost on the Upper East Side.
The Portland-based ice cream company plans to open its first Upper East Side shop at 255 East 77th St., a new residential tower from Naftali Group, the developer announced this week.
The new ice cream shop is expected to open in spring 2027 and will serve the brand’s signature lineup of artisan flavors, from Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons and Double Fold Vanilla to inventive picks like Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper.

"At Salt & Straw, our dream began with a desire to create a community space where neighbors ran into one another, friends and family gathered, and everyone felt welcomed," Kim Malek, co-founder and CEO of Salt & Straw, said. Malek founded the company with her cousin, Tyler Malek.

The new outpost joins Salt & Straw’s other New York locations in the West Village and Upper West Side.
"When we opened our first shops in New York last year, the community embraced us in such a special way, and we’re incredibly excited to bring our unforgettable ice creams to the Upper East Side and connect with the neighbors here," Malek said.
The store will occupy the ground floor of 255 East 77th St., a 500-foot-tall condominium tower designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects with amenities by Yabu Pushelberg. The building, which includes 62 residences and extensive amenities, is slated for completion in late 2026.
Construction is well underway, and Naftali Group says sales at the building have already surpassed 85 percent, the developers said.
