Second Uber Driver Attacked By ‘Irate’ Passenger On UES: Report
It's the second apparently unprovoked attack on an Uber driver on the Upper East Side in less than a week.
UPPER EAST SIDE, NY – An Uber passenger reportedly assaulted their Uber driver in an apparently unprovoked attack on the Upper East Side over the weekend, according to a report in the New York Post.
On Sunday night at about 10:30 p.m., a 42-year-old male Uber driver was driving a passenger near E. 62nd Street and York Avenue on the Upper East Side, the Post reported.
The passenger suddenly became “irate,” according to the report, attacking their driver and even cutting him in the face with a metal object. The passenger then tried to choke the driver, police told the Post, before getting out of the car and fleeing toward the East River.

Second Attack On The UES
Sunday night’s attack occurred less than a week after 23-year-old Jennifer Guilbeaullt pepper sprayed an Uber driver, Shoel Mahmoud, for no apparent reason, according to reports.
Mahmoud has said that he believes the attack was racially motivated.
Uber has not released a safety report since 2022. The company’s most recent safety report, which covers 2019-2020, claims that “99.9% of Uber trips ended without any safety-related issue at all.”
However, the report only includes data about three types of incidents: motor vehicle fatalities, fatal physical assault, and sexual assault, none of which would have captured these incidents.
