Truck Fire Burns For Over An Hour On Upper East Side Street: Police

A truck caught fire Thursday on Second Avenue, filling the neighborhood with acrid smoke, officials and residents said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A truck fire burned for just over an hour on Second Avenue on Thursday afternoon, filling Lenox Hill with acrid, black smoke, according to officials and residents.

At about 12:30 p.m., a truck caught fire on Second Avenue between East 72nd and 71st streets, according to FDNY officials.

Video from social media depicts flames shooting from the top of the truck and smoke pouring out into the air.

One resident told Patch that the truck fire's "acrid" smoke lingered in the blocks surrounding the blaze.

Fire officials said it took responding firefighters just over an hour to get the blaze under control.

The cause of the fire has not been deterimed yet, according to FDNY officials.
