UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A senior citizen was randomly shoved onto the tracks inside an Upper East Side subway station early Tuesday morning, police said.

A stranger began shouting at the 74-year-old man on the downtown 6 train platform inside the 68th Street - Hunter College subway station just after midnight, officials said.

Before he knew it, the strange man had shoved the senior onto the tracks in what appears to be an unprovoked attack, police said.

An alert and heroic on-duty MTA worker ran to the man's aid and helped rescue him from the tracks, according to officials.

The victim suffered lacerations on a finger and told first responders at the scene that he had generalized pain, said police. He then brought him to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell in stable condition.

The shover fled the station and no arrests have been made, police said.
