Upper East Side Store Robbed At Gunpoint, Police Say

Two men robbed a Yorkville CBD shop at gunpoint late Sunday, holding up a teenage employee, police said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A Yorkville shop selling cannabis products was robbed at gunpoint late Sunday, according to police.

Two suspects walked into World of Cannabis on Second Avenue near East 90th Street around 9 p.m. Sunday and approached an 18-year-old employee, police said.

One man brandished a firearm, while the other went behind the counter to grab merchandise and cash from the register, police said. The two men then fled the shop, walking southbound along Second Avenue, police said.

They made off with about $400 in cash, plus $800 worth of CBD merchandise and other products, police said.

The teenage worker was not injured, police said.

Police described the suspects as two men in their twenties wearing black clothing. No arrests have been made.

As smoke shops proliferate across the city ahead of New York's widespread legalization of marijuana, some have worried that the stores could become robbery targets for their valuable products and use of cash transactions.
