Upper East Side Sushi Spot Gets Big Michelin Star Upgrade

The long-acclaimed elite Japanese restaurant Sushi Noz gained an additional coveted Michelin Star this week, giving it a total of two stars.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — An elite Upper East Side Japanese eatery got the sushi nod from one of the top food industry groups this week.

Sushi Noz, long hailed as one of the city's best places for top-echelon sushi since opening in 2018, was awarded an additional Michelin Star this week, giving their eatery the distinction of holding two stars from the prestigious gourmand guidebook.

Noz was just one of the New York City eateries awarded stars this week, including 12 which won stars for the first time.

The elite guide awarded Noz its first star in 2020.

"A long-standing dream came true last night for the Noz team," the 14-seat restaurant posted on their Instagram account. "We could not be more proud of our team, and congratulate Chef Noz on his well-deserved recognition."

Reviewers have long held that dining at Sushi Noz — where dinner lasts two-and-a-half hours and can cost close to $500 per person — is like being transported straight to Tokyo.

"There is a certain energy that courses through this sacred space, where every detail recreates an intimate Japanese refuge," the guidebook wrote. "Some of the tools alone are marvels, and Chef Nozomu Abe is a meticulous and engaging craftsman."

The tasting menu starts with up to six seasonal small plates followed by 12-14 courses of seasonal nigiri, miso soup, tamago and dessert, according to their website.

In 2019, New York Magazine's Grub Street named Sushi Noz as the top spot on their list of the "Absolute Best Sushi in New York."

If the eye-watering price is not in your budget, a sister operation next door, Noz Market, offers a more affordable way to enjoy similar high-quality offerings from the Noz team.
