UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Just in time for winter, the Upper East Side will soon add a new ice cream shop to its ranks: Van Leeuwen is opening a new neighborhood location on Nov. 16, the company announced.

The new shop is at 1270 Third Ave., on the corner of East 73rd Street. The grand opening, from noon to 11 p.m. Wednesday, will feature $1 scoops until 2 p.m. and free tote bags for the first 100 customers, the company says.

Signage for the new location first appeared in August, in a storefront formerly home to the stationery shop Papyrus.
