Woman Injured In Attempted Sutton Place Moped Purse Snatch: NYPD

A 73-year-old woman suffered a "severe" cut after a man riding a moped tried to steal her purse Thursday evening.

SUTTON PLACE, NY — A woman was injured when a moped-riding crook tried to snatch her purse on a Sutton Place street Thursday evening, police said.

At about 4:45 p.m., a 73-year-old woman was hailing a cab on the corner of East 57th Street and First Avenue when a man riding a moped scooted behind her, officials said.

The man, who police only described as wearing a black coat, tried to grab the woman's purse but was unsuccessful, police said.

During the failed grab, the moped-riding crook injured the woman, leaving her with a "severe" cut, a police spokesperson said. Details on how the injury happened were not immediately available.

First responders rushed the injured woman in stable condition to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, while moped man fled east on East 57th Street, officials said.
