UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Cafe Viva, a staple of the Upper West Side since the early nineties, has permanently closed, reported ILoveTheUpperWestside.

The pizza place also served pasta and desserts from its storefront at 2578 Broadway, between 97th and 98th streets.

It was particularly popular for locals looking for kosher, gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options, which Cafe Viva offered in a wider range than almost any other Upper West Side spot.

It first opened in 1992.

The eatery's owner Tony Iracani told ILoveTheUpperWestSide that they had fallen too far behind in recent years and couldn't keep up with the rising expenses.

"It has been a privilege to serve this community for 30 years," Iracani told the publication. "With your patronage, we made it through the most challenging times. I am sad to say that now due to circumstances beyond our control we have to close. I am grateful to everyone who came through our doors. Wishing you good health and all the best!"

Patch was not able to reach Iracani or Cafe Viva, but the pizzeria's Google page also says it is closed.

There is no shuttering announcement on its website or social media, though.
