Here’s What To Know About The NYC Half-Marathon This Weekend

CENTRAL PARK, NY — On your marks! The New York City Half-Marathon, hosted by New York Road Runners, will see more than 27,000 runners race through the city this Sunday, March 16.

This year's race, sponsored by United Airlines, features a new 13.1-mile course starting near the Brooklyn Museum, winding through Prospect Park and up Flatbush Avenue, before crossing the Brooklyn Bridge and heading into Manhattan, heading up FDR Drive, before going through Times Square and finishing in Central Park.

For the first time ever, the race will cross the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, instead of the Manhattan Bridge, which will be closed for construction. Times Square is only closed to traffic twice a year, so drivers in the area may experience some detours or delays.

There are lots of good places along the route to cheer on your most athletic neighbors, like Grand Army Plaza, Times Square, and near the Central Park Bandshell.

Or, if that’s not your thing, plan to avoid Midtown, Downtown Brooklyn, and other areas surrounding the route. See the whole route here.

Commute Disruptions

Right now, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority has not listed any planned subway hiccups relating to the race, but plan for thousands of extra runners and spectators to be riding the subway, particularly the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, N, Q, R, A, C, and E train lines.

The New York City Police Department will close down several roads for the race early Sunday morning, so plan for detours to your regular route.
