UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Two pedestrians suffered head trauma and were hospitalized Friday after being struck by a car on the Upper West Side, an NYPD spokesman said.
EMS arrived at the intersection of West 98th Street and West End Avenue around 3:30 p.m. to find a man in his 50s and a woman in her 60s suffering injuries to the head, police said. Both pedestrians were rushed to St. Luke's hospital, one with non life threatening injuries and one with serious, life threatening injuries, FDNY spokesman Myles Miller said.
The Upper West Side intersection has proved safer than many city streets over the years. Just 7 traffic-related injuries were reported at West 98th Street and West End Avenue since 2009, according to the city's vision zero data.
