UWS Subway Wallet Thief Nabbed, Tied To 5 Other Swipes

The suspect's victims included senior subway riders, including one straphanger on the Upper West Side, police said.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY - A man tied to six thefts across Manhattan, including one in the Upper West Side, has been charged, authorities said.

Elijah Gay, 22, of Brooklyn, was charged Tuesday with grand larceny, fare evasion, criminal possession of a weapon and related charges in connection with the thefts that spanned November 2023 to February 2024.

Gay swiped a 76-year-old woman’s wallet containing credit cards inside the 72nd Street and Broadway station on Jan. 26 about 5:20 p.m., police said.

The other incidents Gay has been tied to include a MacBook theft inside the Broadway-Lafayette station in NoHo on Nov. 12; a MacBook theft from a 74-year-old truck on Madison Avenue on the Upper East Side on Jan. 4; a wallet theft from an 83-year-old man near Broadway and Prince Street in SoHo on Jan. 12 and a purse theft from a 90-year-old woman inside the 59 Street - Columbus Circle station on Feb. 2.
