Wantagh High School Students Mix it Up

Students take part in national program designed to make students more inclusive.

It was a social experiment aimed at making students more accepting of one another.

Wantagh High School students recently  took part in national "Mix it Up Day," a program designed to make students mingle with new acquaintances.

Instead of spending time with their normal group of friends, students entering the cafeteria were given a lollipop to correspond with the color of a predetermined table. Upon being seated, same-aged students and upperclassmen joined the table.

"We wanted to provide the students with a larger scope of the school and get them out of their comfort zones,” said Heather Romano an advisor for the project.

It appeared to work. "Everyone is talking to people they would not have talked to before,” senior Lucas Neroda said.
