Wantagh Hosting Hearing on 'Smart Schools' Funding Next Week

Save the date.

On June 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wantagh High School cafeteria, the district will hold a special public hearing to present a plan for the use of “Smart Schools” funds that have been allocated to the Wantagh Schools for technology and security. During the hearing, district administration will present plans to use the State’s allocation of $1,587,330 to Wantagh School District for district wide enhancements to security and wireless infrastructure.

The Smart Schools Act, approved by the voters last November, authorized the release of funds to school districts for State-approved plans to provide access to classroom technology and high-speed internet connectivity to equalize opportunities for children to learn, to add classroom space to expand high-quality pre-kindergarten programs, to replace classroom trailers with permanent instructional space, and/or to install high-tech smart security features in schools.

School districts may submit their plans to the State via an online application portal that will open on June 15.
