1 Killed, 1 Injured In Washington Heights Drive-By Shooting: NYPD

A black SUV pulled up next to a car on West 158 Street and a gunman opened fire on the vehicle, police say.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A man was killed and another was injured early Thursday morning during a drive-by shooting in Washington Heights.

Roberto Vasquez, 24, was seated in the passenger seat of a black Mercedes Benz sedan on West 158th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue when a Caddilac SUV pulled alongside the vehicle just after midnight, police said. A gunman emerged from the SUV and opened fire on the passenger side of the Mercedes, police said.

Officers arrived on the scene around 12:15 a.m. and found Vasquez suffering a gunshot wound to the neck, police said. EMS rushed the Bronx resident to Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

A 25-year-old man who was driving the Mercedes took himself to the hospital and is in stable condition, police said. A 22-year-old woman who was sitting in the sedan's rear passenger seat was not injured during the shooting.

The gunman fled the scene of the shooting in the black Cadillac SUV, police said. An NYPD investigation into the shooting is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
