16-Year-Old Charged In Deadly Wash Heights Stolen Car Crash: Police

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A teenager has been charged in the deadly crash involving a stolen car that took place in Washington Heights last week, and police revealed the identities of the 15-year-old and 17-year-old boys who were killed.
An unnamed 16-year-old was charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, assault, criminal possession of a stolen property, unauthorized use of a vehicle, criminal mischief, and reckless endangerment in connection to the crash that happened on July 3 at West 179th Street and Audubon Avenue, police said.
Daniel Duran, 15, and Daniel Rodriguez, 17, who were residents of the same building in the Bronx, were killed in the crash, police said on Wednesday.

The unnamed teenager arrested, along with two other 15-year-olds in the car, were also listed in critical condition after the crash, police said.
The 16-year-old was driving the car when it got hit by a Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by a 53-year-old man that was going west on West 179th Street, police said.

There is no indication that the Jeep wasn't following traffic laws at the point of impact.
The collision stopped the Jeep, but caused the Elantra to lose control, smash into a parked car, and flip over, police said.
