2 Dead, 3 Critical After Major Washington Heights Car Crash: NYPD

Six people were injured Monday morning in a crash at 179th Street and Audubon, resulting in multiple deaths, police said.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Two people are dead and three people were in critical condition after a major car crash in Washington Heights on Monday morning, an NYPD spokesperson confirmed to Patch.

A Jeep collided with a Hyundai Elantra about 6:40 a.m. at the corner of Audubon Avenue and West 179th Street, causing the Jeep to overturn, police said.

Two of the people in the Elantra were killed and three other people involved in the crash are in critical condition, police told Patch.

The driver of the Jeep, a 53-year-old man, was taken to Harlem Hospital with minor injuries, police said.

NYPD did not have more information on the identity on the two people killed or the three passengers in critical condition.

The 179th Street and Audubon Avenue location is directly next to the entrance of the Alexander Hamilton Bridge to the Bronx.
