After Inwood Park Attacks, Pol Makes Call For Safety Improvements

Council Member Rodriguez held a press conference Thursday calling for more safety resources and policing in Northern Manhattan parks.

INWOOD, NY — A little over 24-hours after three women were attacked in broad daylight in Inwood Hill Park, Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez held a press conference Thursday to call on the city to add additional resources to improve safety levels in Northern Manhattan parks.

Rodriguez, who represents Washington Heights and Inwood and is also a member of the Public Safety Committee, spoke at 2 p.m. inside of Inwood Hill Park at Payson Avenue and Dyckman Street.

A location that is just steps away from where the women got attacked on Wednesday.

Rodriguez will be calling on the city to increase the number of officers patrolling in Fort Washington Park, Inwood Hill Park, Fort Tryon Park, and Highbridge Park.

Specifically, he also wants to see an additional 25 Parks Enforcement officers and an increase to the number of NYPD Mounted and scooter units patrolling in Northern Manhattan Parks.

On Wednesday, three women were attacked in Inwood Hill Park from 11:21 to 11:57 a.m., according to police. NYPD is still looking for a man wanted in connection to at least one of the attacks as officers continue to determine if the same person is responsible for all three incidents.
