Off-Duty Cop Fatally Shoots Armed Man In Washington Heights, Police Say
Police said the off-duty NYPD officer shot and killed the 30-year-old man in Washington Heights on Sunday night.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Authorities are investigating a police-involved shooting in Washington Heights that left a man dead Sunday night.
According to police, an off-duty police officer fatally shot a 30-year-old armed suspect just after 9:45 p.m. Sunday on West 173rd Street and Amsterdam Avenue.
Police said an off-duty NYPD officer was standing outside a residential building when two men approached on separate mopeds. One of the men allegedly got off his moped, asked the officer if he knew someone by name, and then pulled out a firearm.

The off-duty officer then drew his firearm and fired multiple shots at the man, according to police.
Following the gunfire, the second man fled the scene on his moped and has yet to be identified, police said.

Police said the off-duty officer performed CPR on the suspect before he was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released, but officials said he was 30 years old.
Officers said they recovered a loaded 9mm firearm at the scene.
The off-duty officer was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
This marks the third shooting involving an NYPD officer in the past week. On Friday night, 44-year-old Jesse Campbell was fatally shot by an off-duty officer on Staten Island. Last week, NYPD officers shot 22-year-old Edynesson Bauduy after interrupting a gunfight in Prospect Park South.
