Dyckman Street Corner Co-Named For Man Killed By Plainclothes Officer
The intersection of Dyckman Street and Post Avenue was co-named "John Collado Way" on Saturday.

DYCKMAN, NY — A section of Dyckman Street was co-named this weekend to honor a man who was shot and killed by a plainclothes police officer over a decade ago.
The corner of Dyckman Street and Post Avenue was co-named "John Collado Way" on Saturday in a ceremony held with family and friends by Council Member Carmen De La Rosa.
In 2011, Collado was walking home in the Bronx to cook dinner when he was killed by a plainclothes police officer after he attempted to stop what he thought was a fight between neighbors, De La Rosa explained.

"Dyckman & Post is now also John Collado Way," De La Rosa tweeted out, along with photos of the event. "Happy to have come together with John’s family, Answer coalition, community members, and activists to celebrate John’s life."
Council Member Charles Barron, Collado's Family, the Answer Coalition, and Peace Poets took part in the ceremony on Saturday.
"It means so much to me. I've been fighting and struggling for accountability and to tell the whole world what happened to John Collado in September of 2011," Collado's nephew Joshua Lopez told CBS. "He attempted to do a good deed and breaking up a fight and lost his life. He was all about spreading love and this is what I'm feeling today. I'm feeling so much love."
