Elderly Woman Dies After Apartment Fire Near Washington Heights: FDNY
An 80-year-old woman died after a fire at an apartment building on Edgecombe Avenue Tuesday morning, according to authorities.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A woman died after a fire near Washington Heights Tuesday morning and multiple others were injured, according to the NYPD.
Patricia McDonald, 80, died Tuesday after a "heavy body fire" broke out on the 12th floor of an apartment building on Edgecombe Avenue near W 155th Street, according to the NYPD and FDNY.
The fire broke out about 10 a.m. and spread to the building's 13th floor, according to the FDNY.

McDonald, a resident of the apartment building, was removed from the building and rushed to an area hospital — where she was later pronounced dead, according to the NYPD.
Five other people were injured with non-life-threatening injuries, including two firefighters, according to the FDNY.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation Wednesday.
