WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — An Ethiopian restaurant is opening in a Washington Heights storefront that has seen consistent changes over the past few years.

Addey Ababa will open at 736 W. 181st St., off the corner of Fort Washington Avenue.

Signage has already gone up at the uptown storefront that reads, "Ethiopian Cuisine."

The name is most likely homage to Addis Ababa, which is the capital city of Ethiopia.

The restaurant did not answer a phone call, and Patch could not find an online presence for the eatery.

There has been already been positive buzz over Addey Ababa's opening, though.

"I've met the people there, and I want to do everything I can to support them," uptown resident Flora Stamatiades told Patch about the eatery's ownership.

Stamatiades also posted a photo of the new restaurant in a Upper Manhattan Facebook group, which quickly received a slew of positive feedback.

"So excited about this," one person wrote, while another person added, "Oh wow - Potentially awesome news!"

Addey Ababa will be opening in a space that has seen other restaurants struggle in recent years.

The Ethiopian eatery will be the third at the address in as many years.

Most recently, Casa Del Burrito operated at 736 W. 181st St. for 2022, and Aladdin Grill & Rice served customers at the address in 2021 — both eateries only lasted around a year.

It is unclear when exactly Addey Ababa will open.
