French Bulldog Named Most Popular Pooch In Washington Heights

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Ever been curious about the most popular dog in Washington Heights? Well, look no further, as the American Kennel Club just released a list of the most popular dogs for 2022 in New York City, along with neighborhood breakdowns.

The American Kennel Club, which is the world's largest registry of purebred dogs, has been using its registration statistics to create the annual popularity list for decades.

The most-popular dog in Washington Heights for 2022? None other than the French Bulldog.

The French Bulldog was also the top breed in New York City, and multiple other neighborhoods across the five boroughs.

Here were the most popular dogs among different communities in NYC.

• Astoria: French Bulldog
• Chelsea: Golden Retriever
• East Village: French Bulldog
• Financial District: French Bulldog
• Murray Hill: Dachshund
• New Dorp: Golden Retriever
• Park Slope: French Bulldog
• Riverdale: French Bulldog
• Tribeca: Beagle
• Upper East Side: Poodle
• Upper West Side: Poodle
• Williamsburg: French Bulldog

Citywide in 2022, the French Bulldog was followed by the Poodle, Golden Retriever, Bulldog and German Shepard.

"New Yorkers have loved Frenchies for almost a decade and the rest of the nation has finally caught up," American Kennel Club Executive Secretary Gina DiNardo said in a news release. "The breed is known for being adaptable to different living environments, making it a great companion for city dwellers."

It's the ninth year in a row that the French Bulldog is the most popular pooch in New York City.

It was a milestone year for Frenchies, as the breed also knocked off the Labrador Retriever's 31-year-run as the most popular breed in the United States.
