George Washington Bridge Delays: Truck Fire Causes 'Epic' Problems Into NYC

Delays of over an hour were reported coming into the city.

NEW YORK, NY — A truck fire on the George Washington Bridge snarled traffic into Manhattan during the heart of rush hour on Tuesday morning.

The Port Authority was reporting delays of 90 minutes on the lower level of the bridge because of the fire on the upper level. Traffic is being diverted to the lower level.

WCBS radio described the delays as "epic" during a morning traffic update.

By 10 a.m. Tuesday, the delays were down to 45 minutes, according to the Port Authority.

For drivers coming into the city, the Lincoln Tunnel wasn't exactly a viable alternative either. Heavy congestion made travel times from the New Jersey Turnpike into the Manhattan side nearly an hour long, according to the Port Authority.
