Here's Where The COVID-19 Rate Stands In Washington Heights, Inwood

As the first month of 2023 comes to an end, here's where the COVID-19 rate stands in Upper Manhattan, according to the city.

UPPER MANHATTAN, NY — As the first month of 2023 comes to an end, COVID cases and hospitalizations are decreasing across New York City, but what do the numbers look like for Upper Manhattan?

The city currently has a seven-day virus positivity average of 11.1 percent, which is higher than all but one ZIP code in Washington Heights or Inwood.

Here are the numbers from Jan. 17 to 23 for the four ZIP codes that make up Upper Manhattan.

10032: Washington Heights South

  • Seven-Day Percent Positive: 8.81 percent
  • New Positives: 51 people
  • Total People Tested: 579 people

10033: Washington Heights North

  • New Positives: 40 people
  • Total People Tested: 488 people

10040: Fort George/Washington Heights

  • Seven-Day Percent Positive: 6.44 percent
  • New Positives: 23 people
  • Total People Tested: 357 people

10034: Inwood

  • Seven-Day Percent Positive: 11.14 percent
  • New Positives: 42 people
  • Total People Tested: 377 people

Inwood clearly leads the way in terms of highest percent positivity at 11.14 percent.

The two Washington Heights ZIP codes are posting similar numbers, while the smaller 10040 ZIP code, which led the entire city in positivity rate earlier in the pandemic, has the lowest current numbers.

The current highest rate of any ZIP code in Manhattan is 15.91 percent in Midtown, with areas in the outer boroughs posting positivity numbers as high as 25 percent.

Overall, it is good to see Upper Manhattan far from the highest rates in the city.
