Man Convicted Of Killing Morgan Freeman's Granddaughter: DA

Lamar Davenport fatally stabbed E'Dena Hines, granddaughter of actor Morgan Freeman, in her Washington Heights apartment.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A man was found guilty of killing the granddaughter of actor Morgan Freeman outside of her Washington Heights home, the Manhattan District Attorney announced Monday.

Lamar Davenport, 33, was convicted of manslaughter in the first degree for the 2015 killing of E'Dena Hines, prosecutors said. The two had been dating for several years before the fatal stabbing.

On August 16, 2015, the two were outside of Hines' apartment building on West 162nd Street when Davenport — who was under influence of PCP and alcohol — kicked Hines to the ground and drew a knife, prosecutors said. Davenport then stabbed Hines 25 times in her back, arm and abdomen, prosecutors said.

Hines was taken to Harlem Hospital where she was pronounced dead and Davenport was arrested at the scene of the crime, prosecutors said.

"After binging on mind-altering drugs and alcohol, Lamar Davenport’s actions were simply horrific," District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr., said in a statement. "He knocked Ms. Hines to the ground, pinned her down, and stabbed her an appalling 25 times—including twice through her heart. Ms. Hines did not deserve to die in such a violent, shocking manner, and were the defendant in his right mind that evening, she might still be alive today."
