MTA Worker's Teeth Knocked Out By Wash Heights Straphanger: NYPD

The pipe-wielding straphanger fought with the worker when a C train broke down at the 168th Street station, police said.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — An MTA worker's teeth were knocked out by an angry straphanger with a metal pipe in a Washington Heights subway station, according to police.

The MTA train operator, 37, took a metal pipe to the face when he tried to get the outraged rider to leave a northbound C that broke down at the 168th Street station about 11:45 p.m. Sunday, police said.

The two men fought, then the straphanger pulled the blade and the pipe, hit the train operator in the face and ran from the station, police said.

The worker lost several teeth and suffered a mouth wound, police said.

Medics rushed him to Columbia University Irving Medical Center in stable condition, said police.
