Mystery Donor Steps Up To Replace Heights Man's Stolen Wheelchair
James Jett, 75, has a new electric wheelchair after an anonymous donor got in touch with the 34th Precinct to help get him a new one.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — The tale of Upper Manhattanite James Jett and his stolen wheelchair has a happy ending as an anonymous donor stepped forward to donate a replacement wheelchair for the 75-year-old.
On June 19, Jett parked his newly purchased wheelchair outside the Asbell Pharmacy at 1600 Saint Nicholas Avenue and entered the store to pick up a set of prescriptions, according to police. By the time he returned, the wheelchair was gone.
In early July, detectives part of the NYPD's 34th Precinct who were working the case received a call from a person who wanted to remain anonymous and donate a replacement wheelchair for Jett.

"I love the uptown community. Thank you for getting Mr. Jett's replacement chair," another user commented.
Separate from the anonymous donor, two Washington Heights residents created a GoFundMe campaign to help Jett. The fundraiser recently hit its goal of $3,000.
According to an update over the weekend, the money will still go to Jett to help pay off the debt on his original wheelchair and other expenses.
