New Peruvian Restaurant Opens In Washington Heights: What To Know
Chelas has its soft opening on Friday, and will open full time at West 159th Street on Monday.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A new Washington Heights restaurant with buzz had its soft opening Friday in the run-up to its full-time open on Monday.
Chelas, located at 3820 Broadway (West 159th Street), opened Friday with a menu strictly of Peruvian Pollo a la Brasa.
The restaurant will then open with its full menu on Monday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

"I am so excited to finally announce that as of tomorrow Chelas is officially open!" a representative of the restaurant wrote on Facebook.
Here are some of the items you'll find on the restaurant's dinner menu.

- Crispy tostones served with the catch-of-the-day ceviche and a touch of black olive sauce.
- Peruvian-styled fried calamari
- Fried chicken with crunchy fries, green salad, rice and all of the sauces.
- Steak with rice, french fries, maduros and topped with a fried egg.
- Chaufas, a Peruvian version of Chinese fried rice.
- Signature rotisserie chicken with authentic Peruvian flavor.
There is also a cocktails list and a kid's menu.
Chelas opened on Friday, but it has already gotten involved in the community.
The Peruvian restaurant hosted a night of story telling in July run by the Upper Manhattan publication the Uptown Collective.
The restaurant is also still looking to hire staff.
