NYC Juneteenth Weekend Events: What's Going On

It is Juneteenth weekend and there are plenty of New York City events going on this weekend in honor of the holiday.

NEW YORK, NY — It is Juneteenth weekend and there is plenty to do around New York City in celebration of the holiday.

Juneteenth is an annual holiday that celebrates the emancipation of African Americans from slavery in the United States.

This weekend's events include a Juneteenth food festival in Brooklyn, a concert celebrating Black artists in Manhattan, and much more.

Saturday

Rise in Spirit: A Juneteenth Celebration: Prospect Park, Brooklyn

The Prospect Park Alliance will host a Juneteenth celebration on Saturday from 1 to 6 p.m. within the Lefferts Historic House.

The family-friendly event will educate visitors on the African Diaspora, and also host performances by African dancers and drummers, a jazz quartet, and a gospel choir.

Juneteenth Food Festival: Weeksville Heritage Center, Brooklyn

The second annual Juneteenth Food Festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday at the Heritage Center on 158 Buffalo Ave.

The celebration of black food and culture will feature close to 30 Black food vendors, a marketplace, and a DJ booth.

Sunday

14th Annual Juneteenth Celebration: East New York and Brownsville, Brooklyn

One of the largest Juneteenth celebrations in the country will take place over the course of three days, Friday through Sunday, in East New York and Brownsville.

More than 15,000 people attended the event last year, and there will be music, fashion shows, food trucks, and more at this year's rendition.

Juneteenth in Seneca Village: Central Park, Manhattan

The Central Park Conservancy is hosting a day of Black wellness celebration through dance, music, art-making, comedy, self-care and more.

The event will take place Sunday at 10 a.m. at the old location of Seneca Village, one of the first communities of predominantly Black land owners in New York.

Monday

Black & Queer: A Juneteenth Concert: East Midtown, Manhattan

The Black & Queer Juneteenth Concert will take place Monday at 7 p.m. within the Christ Church NYC at 524 Park Ave.

The concert looks to highlight and celebrate the intersectionality of being Black and queer for members of the New York City community.

A Juneteenth Celebration of Hip-Hop: Central Park, Manhattan

SummerStage will host the Juneteenth celebration at the Rumsey Playfield in Central Park from 4 to 8 p.m.

Artists slated to perform include Gang Starr co-founder DJ Premiere, Grandmaster Flash, and DK Kid Capri.
