Omicron Melts Away: Uptown COVID Rate Falls Amid NYC Case Drop

Here's where the COVID-19 rates stand in Washington Heights and Inwood as the case rate falls across the five boroughs.

UPPER MANHATTAN, NY — After omicron ravaged the city in December and early January, case rates are falling across the five boroughs — including in Washington Heights and Inwood.

As of Tuesday, the statewide case count in New York had dropped 92 percent in the last three weeks, and the daily positivity rate in the city had dropped to around 4 percent.

These same trends are seen in Upper Manhattan.

The slightly over 5 percent positivity is also a steep fall from where Washington Heights and Inwood were around a month ago, when the four ZIP codes in the two neighborhoods posted an average seven-day positivity rate of 19.74 percent for Dec. 19 through 25.

It means that Upper Manhattan's case rate has fallen around 14 percent in the last month.

The city's highest case rate is currently in Flushing, Queens, where the seven-day percent positivity is over 14 percent.

On the other end of the spectrum, the NYC ZIP code with the lowest positivity rate is the Financial District at just 2.48 percent.
