Open Streets Celebrations Set For Earth Day In Washington Heights
The DOT is kicking off the Open Streets season with a celebration on Earth Day later this month, including in Washington Heights.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — The Department of Transportation is kicking off the Open Streets season later this month with what it calls the "largest-ever celebration of Open Streets," including in Upper Manhattan.
The 53rd anniversary of Earth Day will take place on April 22, and two portions of uptown Open Streets will be hosting celebrations.
"Open Streets: Car-Free Earth Day is about encouraging New Yorkers to leave their vehicles at home and enjoying our city's parks, plazas, and expanded network of Open Streets," said Ydanis Rodriguez, the DOT commissioner and former Upper Manhattan council member.
