Police Hunt Man Wanted For Inwood Murder

Police identified a suspect in a fatal Inwood shooting that occurred in March.

INWOOD, NY — The NYPD is trying to identify a man wanted for a March fatal shooting in Inwood, police said.

Police released a photo of a man this week who is wanted for questioning in connection with the March 12 murder of 27-year-old Semaj Smith. Smith, a resident of the East New York neighborhood in Brooklyn, was shot to death on Nagle Avenue between Academy and West 204th streets, police said.

Officers found Smith suffering from a gunshot wounds to the chest and lower torso around 3:45 a.m. on March 12, police said. The Brooklyn man was transported to Saint Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Investigators believe that Smith got into a fight, which escalated to the point he was shot, after leaving a nearby nightclub, police told Patch in March.

The suspect in the shooting is described as a man in his 20s or 30s with a stocky build and a light complexion, police said. He was last seen wearing a white and blue striped sweatshirt, dark pants and white shoes, police said.
