See Washington Heights, Inwood COVID Rate Amid Omicron Surge
The COVID-19 rate has jumped in Upper Manhattan's four ZIP codes, but the figure remains on the lower end of the citywide numbers.

UPPER MANHATTAN, NY — Coronavirus is surging in New York City. There were 13,760 new cases reported in the city on Tuesday, and new information from the CDC shows that Omicron is now making up 92 percent of sequenced cases in New York and New Jersey.
That number is up from 13 percent last week.

For the week of Dec. 13-19, which is the most up-to-date period the city has available information, the average COVID-19 positivity rate in the four ZIP codes that make up Washington Heights and Inwood was 8.5 percent.
In total, 831 people living in the 10032, 10033, 10040, and 10034 ZIP codes tested positive during the seven-day window.

Here's more of a breakdown on the Upper Manhattan COVID numbers:
10032: Washington Heights South
- 7-day percent positive: 9.57 percent
- New people positive: 303
- Median daily test rate: 937
10033: Washington Heights North
- 7-day percent positive: 6.82 percent
- New people positive: 192
- Median daily test rate: 950
10040: Washington Heights/Inwood
- 7-day percent positive: 8.34 percent
- New people positive: 157
- Median daily test rate: 805
10034: Inwood
- 7-day percent positive: 9.60 percent
- New people positive: 179
- Median daily test rate: 840
To give a bit more perspective on the Upper Manhattan numbers, the NYC ZIP code with the lowest positivity rate is in Borough Park, Brooklyn, where the rate is 4.54 percent. On the other end of the spectrum, the West Village's 10014 ZIP code has the highest positivity at 16.36 percent.
Upper Manhattan's average of 8.5 percent is within the bottom quarter of rates citywide.
While Washington Heights and Inwood are on the lower end of the current surge, it is still a massive jump from the neighborhood's rate earlier this month.
In the week of Nov. 30 - Dec. 5, the average COVID rate in the same four uptown ZIP codes was 1.99 percent.
Meaning that the COVID rate in Upper Manhattan has gone up 327 percent in the last two weeks.
