Teen Gunman Shot By Police After Wash Heights Car Crash: NYPD
An armed man who left a suicide note in his car was shot by police near the Henry Hudson Parkway early Thursday, police said.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY - A 19-year-old man was shot after pointing a gun at officers responding to a car crash near the Henry Hudson Parkway early Thursday morning, authorities said.
The teen, whose identity has not yet been made public, crashed a black car near West 177th Street and Haven Avenue shortly before 3 a.m., police said. A young female passenger was with the teen at the time of the crash.
As cops approached the driver’s side door of the vehicle, the masked 19-year-old jumped out with a gun aimed at officers, police said.

Two cops discharged their weapons at the armed teen, firing a total of eight rounds, NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell said at a press conference Thursday morning. The teen was struck twice in the chest.
“This is the second time in four days our officers … responded to a 911 call to assist people,” Chell said. “This is the second time they were immediately placed on some sort of attack and had to defend themselves.”

The 19-year-old was rushed to a local hospital where he is expected to survive.
“Inside that vehicle we do have a note indicating that the individual wanted to commit suicide, various things going on in his life, but he also apologized to our cops for what was about to happen," Chell said.
The woman who was in the car at the time of the crash is cooperating with police, he said.
