Teenager Shot In Front Of Inwood Community Center, Police Say
The 18-year-old was hit in the shoulder and sent to the hospital in stable condition.

INWOOD, NY — A teenager was hospitalized after being shot Thursday night in front of an Inwood community center, an NYPD spokesman said.
An 18-year-old was standing in front of the YM&YWHA of Washington Heights & Inwood on Nagle Avenue around 7:15 p.m. when he was shot, police said. The victim told police that he heard a shot and then felt pain, but did not see the shooter, an NYPD spokesman said.
EMS transported the teenager to Columbia University Medical Center in stable condition.

Thursday night's shooting is the ninth to occur this year in the 34th NYPD precinct, which covers the northern portion of Washington Heights and the entirety of Inwood, according to precinct statistics as of May 19. There was only one shooting in the area at this time in 2018, according to precinct statistics.
The NYPD did not have a description of the suspected gunman and is still investigating the shooting, a department spokesman said.
